Former FA Wales president Trefor Lloyd Hughes made OBE

Former Football Association of Wales (FAW) president Trefor Lloyd Hughes has been appointed an OBE in the New Year Honours for services to football.

Voted on to the FAW council in 1989, he was previously treasurer and senior vice-president.

Mr Hughes told BBC Wales he was initially unsure whether or not he should accept the honour.

"There are people in Wales and particularly Anglesey who deserve it a lot, lot more than me," he said.

"I honestly believe if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be here today."
