Dame Kiri Te Kanawa on Cardiff Singer of World and Sir Bryn Terfel

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, patron of Cardiff Singer of World, looks forward to the 2017 competition and pays tribute to Sir Bryn Terfel, who won the song prize back in 1990 and was knighted earlier by the Queen.

Twenty singers will take part in the competition at St David's Hall in June.

Dame Kiri told BBC Wales arts and media correspondent Huw Thomas that the competition had a wide reach with young singers across the globe.
