Sir Bryn Terfel says knighthood 'surreal' moment

Sir Bryn Terfel says being knighted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace was a "surreal' moment".

Born in Garndolbenmaen in Gwynedd, the award-winning bass baritone won the Lieder Prize at the 1990 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, the same year he made his debut with Welsh National Opera.

Sir Bryn had started singing at eisteddfod competitions from the age of four.

His career has taken him all over the world, while he also curated his own Faenol festival at home and has supported charities including Shelter Cymru and Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales.

He won Grammy Awards for his album Opera Arias in 1996 and his crossover CD Simple Gifts a decade later.

The opera singer talked to BBC Wales arts and media correspondent Huw Thomas after the ceremony.
