Cataracts: Sight loss 'impossible to describe' for artist
A lifelong artists who had hoped to spend his retirement creating art says it is "impossible to describe" the anguish of losing his sight due to cataracts.
The eyesight of 65-year-old Alan Hughes has been deteriorating for two years and he can no longer see his wife's "lovely face", relying on her for many day-to-day tasks.
Mr Hughes, a former DVLA worker, loved painting portraits and landscapes but he can no longer see well enough to indulge his passion.
"It's like losing something that was so precious to you," he said.
