King Charles III: Longest serving Prince of Wales becomes monarch

The longest serving Prince of Wales has become King, taking over the role of monarch from the longest serving Queen.

Charles III was described as a "Welshophile", having a home in the country and attending university there as well as being able to speak some Welsh.

He was made Prince of Wales in 1958, aged nine, with his investiture at Caernarfon Castle, Gwynedd, in 1969.
