Aberystwyth promenade shelter in 3D laser scan

A 3D laser scan has been carried out on a Grade II-listed public shelter which was badly damaged during last week's storms in Aberystwyth.

The scan was carried out by Dr Pete Bunting, senior lecturer in remote sensing at the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences at Aberystwyth University.

Technically the process is called Lidar (light detection and ranging), and is the optical equivalent of Radar.

The Bath Rock building on Aberystwyth promenade partly fell into a hole after its foundations were washed away as massive waves pounded the sea front last week.

Work is due to begin on Friday to move it for repair.
