Refugee crisis: Much more compassion needed, says Wood

Wales should offer to take its "fair share" of refugees, Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood has said, as thousands of migrants try to enter the EU.

"We've got a proud history of providing sanctuary to refugees fleeing war," she said, calling for a Welsh quota.

Ms Wood claimed the Welsh government had not "stepped up to the mark" over the migrant crisis.

First Minister Carwyn Jones said immigration policy was not devolved but Wales was willing to welcome refugees, urging UK ministers to show some leadership as Germany had.

Ms Wood told BBC Wales political editor Nick Servini it was "very difficult to put an exact figure" on how many refugees Wales should take.
