Labour plan for Welsh AM to join NEC 'unworkable'

A plan for Welsh Labour to have an assembly member represent the nation on the UK party's ruling body is "completely unworkable", according to one of its members.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) has proposed the idea as part of plans to devolve more power to Labour members in Wales and Scotland.

First Minister Carwyn Jones has welcomed the suggestion, which is subject to approval at the party conference this weekend.

However, Darren Williams, a Cardiff councillor who sits on the NEC, told the BBC's Daily Politics he voted against Welsh representation on the ruling body because of the method proposed.
