Aberfan disaster: Neil Hamilton's father 'rushed to help'

An emotional Neil Hamilton has told AMs how his father rushed to help the rescue effort following the Aberfan disaster.

One hundred and forty four people died, most of them children, when a mountain of coal waste collapsed and engulfed the school in the village near Merthyr Tydfil on 21 October 1966.

AMs marked the anniversary with speeches and a minute's silence at the Senedd on Wednesday.

The UKIP group leader fought back the tears as he told how his father Ron - a senior mining engineer - cut short their family holiday in England when the tragedy struck.
