Report homophobic abuse, rugby ref Nigel Owens urges youngsters

Rugby referee Nigel Owens has urged young people not to stay silent if they are the victims of homophobic abuse.

The first openly gay man to officiate at the highest level in the game told MPs on the Culture, Media and Sport committee that he was reluctant as a boy to report being bullied about his sexuality.

He urged any youngsters targeted to report abuse to teachers or parents, saying: "You are not the weak person - it is those who are bullying you."
