Ken Skates: M4 congestion near Newport needs tackling

A delayed public inquiry into the proposed M4 relief road around Newport will begin on 28 February.

Economy Secretary Ken Skates has published his revised case for the new stretch of motorway on Wednesday, following updated traffic projections.

Sources said a new formula to predict traffic, brought in by the UK government, predicted slower growth in traffic than previously expected.

Mr Skates has said the Department for Transport data was wrong.

He said the congestion on this stretch of the motorway would need addressing, even if the number of commuters using public transport "vastly increased".
