Lord Elis-Thomas not joining cabinet, Carwyn Jones says

Carwyn Jones has denied he is planning to offer former Plaid Cymru AM Lord Elis-Thomas a job in his Welsh Government cabinet.

Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood wrote in a blog on Wednesday that her party's co-operation deal with Labour would be over if the first minister appointed another non-Labour AM to his team.

Mr Jones has the support of 30 out of the 60 AMs - 29 Labour plus Lib Dem Kirsty Williams, the education secretary.

Lord Elis-Thomas quit Plaid in October, accusing the party of not being serious about supporting stable government.

The first minister told BBC Wales there had been discussions with the former presiding officer, but no offer of a cabinet post.
