Carwyn Jones stands down after 'the darkest of times'

First Minister Carwyn said his family has carried him through "the darkest of times" in announcing he will stand down.

He said he has "asked too much of them" at times and is now doing what is best for them.

The AM for Bridgend made the announcement at Welsh Labour party conference in Llandudno, which he said would be his last as leader.

Referring to the months following the death of Carl Sargeant, Mr Jones said he had been through the "darkest of times".

His exit would give his family, his party and the country a "fresh start", he said.
