Pontypool RFC: Club nearly folded after WRU legal challenge

One of Wales' most famous rugby clubs, Pontypool, was a week away from folding earlier this year, it has emerged.

The club, immortalised in the Max Boyce song Pontypool Front Row, faced crippling legal bills after a failed court case with the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU).

But now the bills have been paid thanks to a £100,000 donation from a life long fan.

Pontypool went to court to fight WRU plans to reorganise the Welsh Premiership.
