Back to Antarctica for adventurer Richard Parks

The former Wales rugby player turned adventurer Richard Parks is heading back to Antarctica in an attempt to break the world record for the fastest unsupported expedition to the South Pole.

Earlier this year, Parks had to abandon an attempt to ski solo to the South Pole after he ran out of time and was "battered physically" by the challenge.

The latest attempt is the first of a two-part challenge he has called Project X, which will see him attempt both the fastest and then the longest Antarctic crossings.

In 2011, Parks achieved his record-breaking dream to reach seven summits and three poles in seven months in the 737 Challenge, aiming to raise £1m for Marie Curie cancer care.

He told Roy Noble of BBC Radio Wales about his latest quest.
