Swansea loses UK City of Culture bid to Hull

Swansea Bay has lost its bid to become UK City of Culture 2017.

The collective bid by Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire lost out to Hull.

It was estimated winning the title would have generated a £70m economic boost for the city.

The announcement was made by Culture Secretary Maria Miller at Westminster.
