Sarkozy praises rescue of French journalists

France's President Nicolas Sarkozy has confirmed the two French journalists who were trapped in the besieged Syrian city of Homs have been successfully evacuated to the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Speaking from the European summit in Brussels, the French president thanked all those involved in the rescuing of freelance reporter Edith Bouvier, whose femur had been shattered during heavy shelling, and photographer William Daniels.
