Germany to clarify law on circumcision

The German government is expected to present new legislation later meant to end a row over the religious tradition of circumcision.

In June, a regional court in Cologne declared that the ritual was a crime, prompting outrage from Jewish and Muslim groups. The government is proposing to make religious circumcision explicitly legal - providing it is carried out by trained people and with parents fully informed about any downsides.
