'There's no humanitarian solution for Syria' says UNHCR

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres, says that the conflict in Syria cannot be resolved by an humanitarian solution but only with political will.

"There is no humanitarian solution for the Syrian crisis. We need a political determination of countries to overcome their differences to come together and to stop this fighting", he said.

New UN figures show that close to a half of the Syrian population will be in need of aid by the end of the year and it predicts doubling of refugees to three and a half million.

In response the UN is launching the biggest appeal in its history, $5 billion for this year.
