Moscow's rusting transmission tower under threat

One of the former Soviet Union's most striking icons, Moscow's Shabolovka Radio tower, is facing demolition amid fears over safety.

Commissioned by Lenin in 1919, and designed by Vladimir Shukhov, the tower stands 160m (525ft) tall, an imposing landmark on the Russian capital's skyline.

Now the tower, which is thought to be one of the most complex technological and mathematical engineering feats of the early 20th century, is beginning to rust.

The BBC's Moscow Correspondent Steve Rosenberg took a trip up the tower.
