Iraq war: US Marine remembers the battle of Fallujah

Ten years ago US Marines fought one of the most intense campaigns of the Iraq war.

More than 1,000 US soldiers died in the attempt to drive Al-Qaeda out of the city of Fallujah.

Now, Fallujah is once again in the hands of Islamic militants and the black flag of Islamic State flies over the city.

Elliot Ackerman was a US Marine platoon commander at the time.

He spoke to BBC News about the fighting, his friends, and whether it was worth it.
