Mediterranean migration in numbers

Over the past few years the number of migrants escaping conflict in search of a better life in Europe has been on the rise.

Crossing the Mediterranean is perhaps the most dangerous route. Hundreds of people are feared to have drowned in the Mediterranean Sea over the weekend when a boat containing 700 people capsized.

BBC News looks at the number of migrants trying to make this dangerous journey.
