Libya conflict: Rebels 'capture Zawiya oil refinery'

Libyan forces loyal to Col Muammar Gaddafi are reported to have abandoned a coastal oil refinery in Zawiya, just 50km (30 miles) west of Tripoli.

Rebel fighters, who have been engaged in fighting in and around Zawiya for several days, are now said to control the site.

The BBC's Matthew Price in Tripoli said that losing the refinery complex, which supplies oil and gas to the Libyan capital, would be a psychological blow for the Libyan leader and his supporters.
