Libya crisis: Gaddafi 'in poor position to negotiate'

Fugitive Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi is ready to begin talks to transfer power, a US media outlet has been told.

A spokesman told the Associated Press news agency that negotiations would be led by Col Gaddafi's son, Saadi. He also said Col Gaddafi was still in Libya.

The BBC's John Simpson in Tripoli said that striking a deal with the fugitive Libyan leader could bring benefits for the rebels, but that Gaddafi himself was not in a strong position to negotiate.
