Clashes inside pro-Gaddafi city of Sirte

The interim government in Libya says its forces have entered Sirte, one of Col Gaddafi's last strongholds, from the west and are fighting pro-Gaddafi forces near the city centre.

It is not known if the colonel or his family members are in the city.

The BBC's Alastair Leithead is with the anti-Gaddafi forces advancing on Sirte from the east.
