Somali pirates: Armed guards to protect ships

Armed guards could be placed on board British flagged vessels in a radical attempt to protect them from Somali pirates.

Piracy costs the maritime industry millions of pounds every year and the Royal Navy has become involved in anti-piracy operations in the Indian Ocean.

Now the prime minister says shipping companies should be able to bolster their own security.
