Strike-hit Nigeria 'to drop price of petrol'

Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has announced an immediate drop in the cost of fuel, following a week of strikes after prices doubled.

In a televised address, the president said the price of petrol would fall by around 30% in recognition of the "hardships being suffered" by people.

However he refused to restore the subsidy to its original levels.
