Malawi: Maize runs out following failed harvests

Over 1.5m people in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world, have run out their staple food maize, which they grind to prepare their meals.

They need relief maize to carry them through up to March next year, when the next harvest is due.

The hunger stricken districts are mainly in the South of Malawi where poor rains for three consecutive seasons have resulted in failed harvests.

The BBC's Mutuna Chanda has been to one of the worst affected districts.
