The 'Magician of the Desert' opens shop in New York

Renowned African designer Alphadi, known in the fashion industry as 'the Magician of the Desert', has just opened a boutique in New York.

The Malian-born designer - who also has shops in France, Ivory Coast and Niger, where he grew up - has created a storm on the catwalks with outfits such as the one that a model wears, in the picture above, during the 10th Dakar Fashion Week in 2012.

The BBC's Leslie Goffe met Alphadi at the New York grand opening and sent this report to Focus on Africa.
