Can Nigeria's renovated railway unite north and south?

In Nigeria, a poor road network can mean it takes more than a day to travel from one end of the country to the other. Travelling by road and air have been the only options - until now.

Chinese investment has helped reopen the rail network that had fallen into disrepair.

It is hoped that a re-established link connecting communities in the north and south can help defuse Nigeria's religious tensions.

The long defunct rail link has reopened between the commercial capital Lagos in the largely Christian south and the city of Kano in the mostly Muslim north.
