Nelson Mandela is continuing to respond to treatment, and is comfortable and breathing without difficulty, according to a South African Government spokesman.

The 94-year-old anti-apartheid leader was admitted to hospital on Wednesday night, suffering from pneumonia.

He is expected to stay there for at least the Easter weekend, as Andrew Harding reports from Johannesburg.
