Joy in South Africa as Mandela discharged from hospital

Former South African President Nelson Mandela has been discharged from hospital after treatment for pneumonia, the government has announced.

It said there had been "a sustained and gradual improvement in his condition".

The news that Mr Mandela had returned home was welcomed by members of the public in South Africa, where many regard him as the father of the nation.
