Nelson Mandela death: Apartheid - 46 years in 90 seconds
Before he became president and elder statesman, Nelson Mandela was the highest-profile figure in South Africa's struggle against apartheid.
But what was apartheid? Many millions of children and young adults have only known a world without it.

It led to international isolation and civil conflict, but eventually crumbled after Nelson Mandela was freed from 27 years in prison.
The BBC's Adam Blenford recaps decades of apartheid in 90 seconds, and Nelson Mandela's central role in its defeat.
