Emmanuel Jal 'still optimistic' about South Sudan

South Sudan is marking two years as an independent state, after breaking away from Sudan, but many experts say the country has not progressed nearly as well as it was expected - facing economic and security challenges.

A group of American activists who contributed towards South Sudan's efforts to win independence have accused the government of widespread human rights abuses and massive corruption.

One of South Sudan's most famous sons, musician and former child soldier Emmanuel Jal, told BBC Africa's Sophie Ikenye why he is still optimistic about his country's future.
