Nairobi shooting: Many dead in mall gun fight

Dozens of people have been killed in a gun fight inside a shopping centre in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, eyewitnesses have said.

Police are exchanging fire with gunmen at the Westgate centre in the Westlands district - one of the city's most exclusive shopping malls.

A senior police officer originally said it was an attempted robbery but later Somali militant group al-Shabab told the BBC it carried out the attack.
