Exiled Rwanda dissident Patrick Karegeya 'strangled'

Exiled former Rwandan intelligence chief Patrick Karegeya has been murdered in a Johannesburg hotel room, according to South African police.

Mr Karegeya was stripped of the rank of colonel after falling out with his former ally, President Paul Kagame.

A Rwandan former Lieutenant General and friend of Patrick Karegeya, Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa, told the BBC's Peter Biles that he believed that Mr Karegeya had been strangled with a rope from a curtain.

Gen Nyamwasa has himself survived two assassination attempts since fleeing to South Africa in 2010.

Rwanda's government has denied any links to the attacks on Gen Nyamwasa or the killing of Mr Karegeya.
