South African singer Simphiwe Dana's tribute to Marikana shootings
As South Africa celebrates 20 years of political freedom, multi-award winning singer and songwriter Simphiwe Dana has released a song called Nzima, inspired by the Marikana tragedy, in which the police shot striking mine workers in August 2012.
The song is also a prayer for a people that have had a history of violence inflicted upon them.
Simphiwe Dana spoke to the BBC's Taurai Maduna in Johannesburg about the recording of the song and her thoughts on freedom in South Africa.
