South Sudan crisis: Rivals to meet for peace talks

South Sudan's president has agreed to hold direct talks with his rival aimed at ending the conflict in the country, US Secretary of State John Kerry has said.

John Kerry, who is on a visit to the South Sudanese capital of Juba, said the meeting between Salva Kiir and the rebel leader, Riek Machar, could take place as early as next week.

Thousands of people have died and more than a million people have fled their homes since violence erupted in December.

Tensions are particularly high at a UN refugee camp in Juba, from where Alastair Leithead reports.
