Young African leaders build new skills

As part of a US initiative to invest in Africa's future leaders, 500 Africans aged between 25 and 35 have spent the last six weeks at universities across America.

Chosen from nearly 50,000 who applied for the scheme, they were able to do courses to broaden skills in their fields of expertise.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (Yali) is part of President Barack Obama's strategy to strengthen institutions on the continent - a theme he intends to emphasis at this week's US-Africa summit.

BBC Africa asked some of the young African leaders what they had learned.
