Cape Verde volcano eruption: Residents evacuated
A volcano has erupted on the Cape Verde island of Fogo, resulting in the evacuation of hundreds of residents and the closure of a local airport.
A huge plume of smoke, which was visible from a neighbouring island, started to rise from the Pico do Fogo volcano on Sunday.
Officials have said they think this eruption was bigger than the last one, which was in 1995.
The Cape Verde archipelago, which lies off the coast of West Africa, consists of 10 significant volcanic islands, nine of which are inhabited.
