DR Congo drops controversial part of electoral bill

The parliament in the Democratic Republic of Congo has decided not to go ahead with a controversial proposed change to the electoral law, which had triggered days of protests.

The law would have meant a census had to be carried out before the elections.

Opposition groups had said this was a ploy to delay the election and effectively give President Joseph Kabila a third term.

The reversal is being seen as a huge blow to the president and his supporters.

BBC Africa's Maud Julien reports.
