At least 500 killed in South Sudan

At least 500 people are now thought to have been killed in South Sudan after soldiers turned on each other in Juba, the capital, earlier in July.

South Sudan became independent in 2011 but civil war broke out in 2013, largely along ethnic lines, when the two most powerful men in the country from the two main ethnic groups fell out.

A peace deal brought both men back to the table in April, but, barely three months later, tension between their troops turned to heavy fighting in Juba.

South Sudan now faces a humanitarian crisis.
