Attack on Tigray capital 'won't be war crime'

An Ethiopian government minister has told the BBC that an impending assault on the heavily populated Tigray regional capital Mekelle would not amount to a war crime.

The UN has warned that attacking Mekelle will harm civilians and potentially involve serious violations of international law.

But Bikila Hurisa, a minister in the Ethiopian prime minister's office, said the operation would be targeted only at Tigray's "treasonous" leaders.
