Khmer Rouge chief Kaing Guek Eav gets life sentence

Appeal judges at a UN-backed tribunal in Cambodia have rejected a claim by the man who ran a notorious Khmer Rouge detention centre that he was not responsible for the crimes which happened there.

Kaing Guek Eav, known as DOIK, had been sentenced to 35 years for crimes against humanity - that has now been been increased to life imprisonment.

He had appealed on the grounds that he was merely a junior official following orders.
