Activist Chen awaits permission to leave China for US

The Chinese human rights activist Chen Guangcheng says he is waiting for the paperwork to be completed before he can leave the country for the United States.

Mr Chen has been at the centre of a diplomatic stand-off since he escaped from house arrest and took refuge in the American embassy in Beijing. He is currently under guard in a hospital there.
