Bangladeshi Islamist politician to be executed for 1971 war crimes

A special tribunal in Bangladesh has sentenced an Islamist leader to death for war crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence with Pakistan.

Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid, a key figure in the Jamaat-e-Islami party, was found guilty of five charges, including abduction and murder.

He's the second senior figure from the Jamaat-e-Islami party to be convicted by the tribunal this week. The party's 91-year-old former leader was jailed.
