Australia extreme heat kills thousand of bats

Parts of North America have been gripped by record freezing temperatures in recent days, but it is a very different story in Australia, where temperatures have soared as high as 50C.

The extreme conditions have proved challenging for local residents and also taken a terrible toll on wildlife. At least 50,000 bats are reported to have been killed by the heat in the state of Queensland.

This video, filmed by Murray Paas, reveals the devastating impact of the heatwave on a bat colony in Dayboro, Queensland.
