Afghan voter's experience: Long queues and high security
BBC News has heard from one Afghan voter who described how he had to go to seven polling stations because the queues were so long.
Abdul Malik Niazi from Kabul said: "Security was very heavy... I came across about 10, 11 police checkpoints."
People were excited about voting but waited patiently, he added, saying: "I am very proud to have voted today."
