S Korea ferry: Weather and obstructions frustrate rescue effort

The third officer was at the helm of the ferry that capsized off South Korea, investigators said, as divers worked to access the sunken hull.

A total of 268 people, including scores of high school students, remain missing after Wednesday's disaster.

Updating the press, senior coastguard official Koh Myung-seok said that adverse weather had prevented divers entering the vessel.

He said that other divers, who did manage to enter the ferry's cargo bay, found their way obstructed and were unable to continue with the search and rescue operation.
