Turnbull: Australia has to be tough on people smuggling

Malcolm Turnbull, communications minister in Tony Abbott's right-of-centre Australian government has defended its policy of being tough on tackling people smugglers and asylum boats.

The country has faced criticism from Amnesty International but Mr Turnbull told HARDtalk's Stephen Sackur the "harsh" measures being used to protect the country's borders were all within international law.

He said: "If you want to stop the people smuggling business you have to be very, very tough."
